May 1 is synonymous with International Workers’ Day, or Labor Day, which celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labor movement.

As an environmental group we believe that in developing our campaign strategies and policies we take great care to reflect our fundamental respect for democratic principles and to seek solutions that will promote global social equity.

The celebration of May 1st  reminds us of the need to affirm the right of all workers to a safe and healthy work environment without being forced to choose between an unsafe livelihood and unemployment. It also affirms the right of those who work at home to be free from environmental hazards.

May the observance of Labor Day be a fitting reminder for all of us that environmental and social justice go hand-in-hand.
