Greenpeace marked the anniversary of the world’s worst nuclear power plant disaster with a solemn candle-lighting ceremony.
With the images still fresh in our heads, we went out to the wet grass, to light candles. Right after watching, Zero Hour: Disaster at Chernobyl, we went out and lit 2,000 candles to remember those who’ve been affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
2,000 candles… illuminate the solemn candle-lighting ceremony to protest the proposed revival of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).
2,000 candles… calling for safe energy for the Philippines ,
2,000 candles… lit by more than supporters, volunteers and representatives of organizations under the Network Opposed to the BNPP.
2,000 candles… spell the words “No Nukes” in a park in Quezon City .
2,000 candles… remember the past while at the same time prophetically warns the present of the future danger of a nuclear renaissance.
2,000 candles… illuminate the dark night sky, serving as beacons of hope for a nuclear-free future.
Below is a fast moving short film – like a music video – about the Chernobyl disaster and Greenpeace anti-nuke campaign. Film by Christoph Schwaiger.
